The Living Legacy of an Aegean Gem
Lemnos is steeped in mythology and history. According to legend, it was the sacred island of Hephaestus, the god of fire and craftsmanship, who was said to have landed here after being cast from Mount Olympus. Today, visitors can explore ancient ruins, medieval castles, and archaeological wonders such as Poliochni, one of the oldest known settlements in Europe, and Kavirio, a mysterious sanctuary dedicated to the Cabiri gods.
Myrina, the island’s charming capital, is home to the largest fortress in the Aegean, offering panoramic views of the sea and town below. Strolling through its cobbled streets, you’ll find traditional stone houses, lively waterfront cafés, and boutique shops selling handmade crafts and local delicacies.
